Fall for DKNY Fall Collection

Most creations from designers' fall and autumn collections are thick, warm winter woollies, like sweaters and turtlenecks. This season, however, DKNY brings colour to dreary autumn weather but with creations that are well-suited for our Singaporean weather.

If you're rolling your eyes thinking this is another fall collection with monotonous colours and too-thick sweaters for our hot Singaporean weather, then think again. We headed down to the DKNY shop at Palais Renaissance to check out just how hot this winter collection's clothing was going to be for Singapore's heat.

Leather and colour have not escaped DKNY in her Fall/Autumn collection 2000. For all designers around this year, coloured and black leather are on the catwalks, teamed with 80s styled boots, both knee-high and angle length.

For Donna Karan, we're seeing lots of bright colours and textures this season with lots of short-sleeved or sleeveless mock turtlenecks. We can now look trendy like what the winter European catwalks are flaunting and not perspire gallons of sweat in our tiny, humid island.

The items of clothing here that are most suited for Singaporean temperatures are the sleeveless mock turtlenecks, which are vibrant with lots and lots of textured knits, teamed with sleek but not tight, skirts flowing around the hips. We tried on the knitted tops for that 'prickly' test, which is definitely an important factor for winter clothing in Singaporean weather. But these materials are so smooth that you could even wear them out on the streets without feeling itchy. Most of the clothes have an under layer so that the prickliness of the material wont disturb the wearer here.

As for the long-sleeved turtlenecks, you can be rest assured that they wont leave you sweating beneath the garments. Although the cotton ones are a little too warm to wear for just a stroll down Orchard Road, they are cool enough to wear in the office. DKNY also has other selections of turtlenecks besides the cotton ones. Try the brightly-coloured mixed cashmere mesh turtlenecks, as they feel so soft and smooth next to your skin and with that mesh material, you can be sure you'll stay cool in our kind of weather.

Prices range from $29 to over $1,000.
