Body massages call to mind kneading pain and the embarrassment of having to strip to have your unclothed body massaged by a total stranger.

Here's the good news. With Shiatsu, you get to keep your clothes on. A traditional Japanese art of body massage, Shiatsu consists of 2 Japanese words - 'shi' or 'finger' and 'atsu' or 'pressure'.

Said Terry Liew, founder of The Shiatsu School: "Shiatsu focuses on technique and the advantage is that it helps bridge the gap of people who have big hang-ups about undressing.

"Furthermore, not only is it reassuring to the client, therapists also feel more comfortable, especially when servicing clients with skin diseases.

"No direct skin contact also means that Shiatsu can be practised in public."
