Sporting bright red hair (it's blonde as we speak now) for his role in the Singapore-Hong Kong-Taiwan production of Devil Blues, we couldn't help but comment on his resemblance to the popular Japanese comic character Yingmu Huadao from Slamdunk (we'd rather not tell him he looks like a certain mascot of a gigantic fast food chain).

In a split second, Jeff woke up from his sombre mood and with eyes gleaming with teenage glee, went on to describe the character in an excited tone.

"My character in Devil Blues changes the same way that Yingmu does. They are very funny and lively guys, but when they turn serious, everyone becomes so surprised at what they are capable of."

In Devil Blues, Jeff plays a delinquent who's selected by a cop (played by Tay Ping Hui) to join a special task force. "My character here is not a bad person at heart; just someone who has made some mistakes. This is his chance to start a new life."

Now that we've lured him into a comfortable ease, we seized the opportunity to ask him the naughtiest thing he's done when he was younger, hoping he'll air some juicy dirty laundry.

His confession?

"When I was younger, I don't go home straight after school, and my mother always got angry about it. Once when I was 6 or 7 years old, I came home from school, opened the metal gate silently, changed my shoes to slippers and ran out to play with my friends. My mother was so worried she called my teachers and friends.

"A child wouldn't know what parents are feeling. When I'm a father, I must look out for my children."

Not exactly the earth-shattering deed we were hoping for, but looking at this young sunny man in front of us, it's hard to imagine him doing anything more than out of cheeky mischief.

Like many other artistes in MediaCorp, Jeff will also appear in the huge production Hotel.

"I play a traveller in cowboy attire and stopping over at the hotel for a rest. My appearance is in the last scene in the last episode, and I think my image and character will leave an impression with the viewers."
