all keyed up about Kailing

Nope, Kailing isn't Cynthia's daughter,
goddaughter, niece or cousin. Just what is it about Kailing - a
character that Cynthia plays in Through Thick And Thin alongside
Ah Can Liao Weixiong- that gets her all excited?

 Cynthia
Koh was in a very good mood when we met her at the press conference
of Through Thick and Thin.
Smiling, joking and laughing all the way, she
shares with us some thoughts about her character, Kailing, who is
actually Ah Can's wife in the serial.
 "I
don't think Can Gor's (Brother Can) wife is like that in real life.
Because the script is quite different from his real life, I did
not base my character on her. Rather, I just tried to play the character
based on my understanding of her from the script," says the
smiling actress.
Cynthia's no spendthrift
 Says
Cynthia, "The reason why Ah Can became bankrupt in the show
is partially because of his wife, Kailing. She is a rich man's daughter
and she does not value money at all. Naturally, when Ah Can was
famous and rich, he gave her a credit card and all she did was to
spend money without a care and without stopping to think about when
to stop."
 And
it is precisely because of this that Cynthia had a very good time
filming this serial. "While the others are sweating it out
in the hot sun, all I had to do is to visit coffee houses, and all
the branded shops and pretend to buy things," she laughs.
But unlike Kailing,
Cynthia is not one to splurge. "I think it is important to
save up for the future." But there are things that she would
willingly spend money on. "I don't mind spending money to go
on tours because at every place you travel to, you learn something,"
she says.
 "Shoes,
are also another thing I don't mind splurging on because you are
wearing them and it's your own feet you are talking about here.
A good pair of shoes will allow you to run around comfortably,"
reasons the petite actress whose most expensive purchase was a $300
pair of boots.
Kailing really loves Ah Can
 One
of the questions the actress gets asked most often when people find
out that she is playing Ah Can's wife in the serial is this: "Why
do you think Kailing loves Ah Chan since he's not much of a looker?"
Said Cynthia, "I wondered too actually
(she laughed). I actually went to ask his wife what she saw in him
and she said she married him because he was very honest and sincere.
I was really touched when I heard that. Nowadays, a man like this
is hard to come by because you know lah… men invariably will
want to cheat."
 But
what about Cynthia? Will she accept someone regardless of age, physical
looks or race?
Says Cynthia, "I don't really mind as long
as he loves me. But the age difference should be like between 3
to 4 years."
 Sharing
her thoughts on love, Cynthia says philosophically, "When it
(love) happens, it happens. It all really depends on fate. Besides,
the most important thing, I feel is compromise and understanding.
If you are fated to be and this person turns out to be your soul
mate, then you should take it and not worry too much."
