Ah… the nerve-wracking miles that noble-hearted local TV personalities would go to raise some S$100,000 for the Home Nursing Foundation last Saturday.

Despite looking most uneasy, award-winning actor Xie Shaoguang stepped up for the mike and gave a go at his rendition of Hongkonger Ronald Cheng's Zui Ai De Ren Bu Shi Ni.

Public singing's definitely not his forte and we bet the 4 accompanying dancers whose arms rose, fell, and fluttered with the rhythm of the song must have added to his trauma.

On the other hand, Zoe Tay, Chew Chor Meng and especially Christopher Lee appeared more at ease as they charmed and extended their appreciation to some 2,000 donors with their "live" singing.

The popular stars had joined forces with 6 Indonesian singers at 2 sessions of charity concerts at Kreta Ayer Theatre last Saturday evening.

The event, titled Together We Share Charity Nite, was jointly presently by Sky Music Enterprise and Biz Trends Media.

Still, it was a night where the 3 artistes shed their glamour image and turned food hawkers.

Christopher was cheered on by his fan club as he tried his hand at wrapping Chinese delicacy, the popiah while Zoe and Chor Meng won the house's loudest applause and laughter as they fixed up Indian traditional drink, teh tarik.

Touched by the stars' efforts, guest-of-honour Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Community Development and Sports, went backstage after the first concert to thank them personally.

Mrs Yu-Foo even gave a pat on the back of Ah Jie Zoe as she praised her performance, "Your singing has improved tremendously!"

Funds which were also raised from the auction of autographed Transitlink cards would be used to subsidise health care for senior citizens and to maintain the Foundations' elderly care centre.

Home Nursing Foundation would be tying up with Kidney Dialysis Foundation in its next charity drive. To bring relief to the needy, please call the hotlines 252-5677 or 271-7100 which are currently open for your generous donations.
