pimp had us sold

you haven't seen the best of Cameron Mackintosh yet.

Leo Tavarro Valdez was the star of the night
that dazzled and shone so brilliantly in the official premiere of
Miss Saigon last Saturday.
Reprising
his role of the dubiously moniker-ed Engineer, the stage pimp showed
off his worthy and supreme wealth of experience. His swarthy prey-instincts
were crucial in weaving the tale that joined Vietnamese bargirl
Kim (Deedee Lynn Magno) and American G.I. Chris (Clifton Hall).
Leo's
unparalleled singing and precise comedic timing could only have
come from his years of performing on stage and honing his craft.
He had us riveted with his every sneaky move, plotting to wring
money and his precious visa to the US out of Kim, and never again
will you forget his lifelong motto that "men will always be
men".
With the astounding 23 changes of sets, amazing
variations of 1500 costumes and brilliant music directed by the
talented Guy Simpson, the musical set in the Vietnam War days is
without doubt the best that ever visited Singapore.
 The
jarringly lurid and colourful opening scenes of the cabaret Dreamland
jolted as much as the tragic abandonment of Kim stunned us with
grief.
The real life action from the stars definitely
outshone the much-exalted props of the life-size helicopter, the
4.2m statue of Ho Chi Minh and the 3.3m 1959 Cadillac.
