Want to know more about the Millionaire host?

The strings tying Cao Qitai to Singapore are many.

Six years ago, this renowned Taiwanese host uprooted his family and moved to Singapore. Two years ago, they received their permanent resident citizenship. All 3 children are studying in Singapore; his eldest son in a polytechnic, daughter in Secondary One and the youngest son in Primary One.

Even though work is in Taiwan, Qitai still comes back to Singapore every week, because this is where home is.

The English version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire created a huge commotion in Singapore, and the host The Flying Dutchman is a household name. Is there a pressure for you, being the Chinese host?

Cao Qitai: "Every host has his or her own style, and a different attractiveness and rhythm. I've hosted more than 50 programmes of different types in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. I will bring these experiences to Singapore. All the training seems to be in preparation for this glorious moment of hosting Who Wants To Be A Millionaire."

You are after all not a born and bred local. Would you have problems handling questions on Singapore?

Cao Qitai: "I've already done my share of homework, so I believe I will be able to handle them."

Hosting this game show means you won't be able to take part in it and become a millionaire overnight. Do you feel a morsel of regret?

Cao Qitai: "Being the Millionaire host makes me prouder than winning it. Because I'm giving away not just $1 million, but a million knowledge and a million happiness."

What's your pay cheque for hosting Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

Cao Qitai: "A reasonable sum."

This programme pulls you closer to Singapore. Are you planning to move your career to Singapore?

Cao Qitai: "I've already hosted the Star Awards for 4 consecutive years, and Star Search this year. I believe everyone can see my direction."

Hmm, is Qitai dropping some hints?

Do you like Singapore?

Cao Qitai: "I like Singapore very much. Really! This is a multi-racial society, a cosmopolitan city and it's safe, beautiful and prosperous. My wife Xia Lingling contracted a kidney illness 6 years ago, and my whole family moved to Singapore. It's Singapore's beautiful sunshine, fresh air, advance medical services and kind people that cured my wife totally. Thank you Singapore!"

We believe Cao Qitai will bring much enjoyment to our local audiences, so thank you Qitai!

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Chinese version, will be shown on Channel 8 every Wednesday and Thursday at 8pm, starting on August 15.
