For NDP 2001, MediaCorp fields 72 artistes for the mass display singing item, Singapore Town. You can expect a multi-cultural, star-studded outing as apart from Channel 5 and 8, some of these artistes come from Suria and Vasantham.

What's the most memorable National Day for model couple, Edmund Chen and Xiang Yun?

Edmund says, "I had sung and danced for the NDP in the previous years. However for the NDP last year, we (whole family) were invited to be among the few to take the pledge. It was a whole new feeling and experience."

Xiang Yun adds, "This year is also special to us. It's a refreshing feeling to be singing and dancing with so many colleagues."

Apart from NDP, what other celebratory activities would you like to see?

The attentive mother of 2 wishes that alternative National Day celebratory activities can be organised for people who could not get tickets to NDP. In that way, more people can join in the festive mood.

To this, hubby agrees. "That's a good idea. We are all busy with the performance and have no time to sit with the kids to watch the performance. After all, the festive atmosphere is something that is not possible to recount or feel through TV. If there are such smaller-scale performances, we can bring the kids to celebrate together with our neighbours."

The proud parents would be at home watching the repeat telecast with the kids, "My son already knows some part of Singapore Town. My neighbour's son, especially sings the song very loudly."

Jaraad Shamen Ghazzali from Vasantham feels that it is an honour to be part of the performance and that he is proud to be creating a joyous mood for Singaporeans together with his fellowmen.

What's the most memorable National Day for Jaraad?

"It's last year's National Day. I was still in school and I represented the school in a display item. The atmosphere made the experience unforgettable. However, this year, I would be performing on stage, it's even more meaningful."

This Vasantham rookie admits that having just joined MediaCorp for a year, he is pleasantly surprised to be assigned such an important task.

He points out that although he has to put in 12 hours of rehearsal time, the group activity makes him forget his fatigue and gets him all excited instead.

Apart from NDP, what other celebratory activities would Edmund Tay like to see?

Edmund says, "I wish that one week prior to the big day, there would be different celebratory activities to act as warm up for the actual day in various estates. People from all ages and races can perform song-and-dance items to mark Singapore's history or her future. In addition, I hope that there would be street parties like Swing Singapore in Orchard Road."

Your most memorable National Day?

"There's something new each year. When I was a child, I liked the contingent parade. I think this year's NDP 2001 will be my most memorable National Day with so many performing artistes."

Yvonne Lim's most memorable National Day?

"When I was a child, my family got tickets to NDP. I only know that I was really happy then. After that, we got tickets to NDP for a few years, so I watched the parade happily for a few years."

The bubbly 25-year-old will be singing during the post parade party together with Fann Wong and Jacelyn Tay among others. The party will be webcast live through Woof! at http://www.woof.com.sg

NDP 2001 will be telecast 'live' on Channel 5 , Channel 8 , Suria and Vasantham Central in the 4 official languages. Viewers on the move can also catch it on TV Mobile.

Log on to www.mediacorpsingapore.com/ndp or www.woof.com.sg for the 'live' webcast of the Parade from 6.10pm to 8.00pm.
