| Yanzi
and Yuki pack in the crowds
July 30, 2001
Despite the heavy downpour on Saturday (July
28), thousands packed Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza for Yanzi's autograph
session. When night fell, more than a 10,000 Yanzi and Yuki fans
were roaring for their concert.

Stage
left, shrieks from Yanzi's die-hard fans.
Stage right,
Yuki's supporters rallied back.
For minutes, the segregated crowd indulged in
a frenetic competition to see who could scream their idol's name
louder and longer.
 The
winning declaration must be the one by a female fan (from the 'Yanzi
Camp') who hollered, "Yuki, I want to marry you!" when special
guest Yuki Masuyama bounced on stage with the fast number Crash
Dancing.
It's always a mind-boggling wonder what overactive
oestrogen hormones can do to young and impressionable female minds.
After 5 songs from the teenage lad,
Yanzi finally hit the stage in a fiery display of flares in
her first home concert.
Bearing a Cheshire
grin and waving to her screaming fans, some of whom camped overnight
from Friday to 'chope' the best seats, her level of sophistication
and stage experience hid the fact that this 23 year-old hit the
music scene only a year ago.
She was halted midway by comedic duo y.e.s 933
DJs Liyi and Chongqing with a surprise birthday celebration.
The ecstatic gleam in her eyes when she saw
the cake was matched only by the shock expressed when she saw her
present from Warner Music - a spanking new Nokia 9120 WAP-enabled
phone, 1 out of the only 2 available in Singapore.

When we spoke to Yanzi and Yuki
at the post-concert party, our pop princess said she was "pleasantly
surprised" at the sheer amount of fans who turned up.
"I
wasn't nervous during the concert, since this isn't the biggest
concert I've held. I was quite calm and wanted to have a good time
and influence the crowd and spread the contagious vibe."
Newbie Yuki confessed he was a
bundle of nerves when he was on stage, and there's only one word
to express his feeling now: high!
That makes him one of the many
thousands who had a fantastic time that night!
