Forget
the birthday cake!
Christopher
Lee was at a surprise shindig organised by MediaCorp and his Singapore fan club
at Hard Rock Café last Saturday (held 2 days before the actual day due to his
filming schedule), when the limelight inevitably shone on his galore of gifts.
The
stellar star revealed with child-like innocence that his rumoured beau, Fann
Wong, gave him a striking red designer belt from Hermes, you see.
And
that certainly put the invited press members on their 'never-say-die' nosy spirit
once again.
According to the Chinese, a
gift choice of belt or tie signifies the intention to strap the recipient down
ala "I want to be with you forever". So,
is this a love hint from Fann?
"No lah, it's just
a simple gift. Don't let your thoughts run wild," an amused Chris let out. He
had once expressed a liking for the belt, which was spotted on a friend at his
good friend David Gan's recent birthday bash. Fann
probably remembered that remark and decided to get one, he explained. Alas,
the MediaCorp Princess and his celeb chums did not turn up on this joyous occasion.
Neither was the noteworthy belt strapped onto his waist.
Va-va-vroom, Chris' dreams come true! But
the other significant present - a Mitsubishi Pajero GDi -- did make a surprise
grand appearance.
Now, that really left the ecstatic birthday boy teary-eyed. "It's
always been my dream car. But the market price is closed to $200,000. If I buy
it, I'll probably be penniless. That's why I've hesitated so long…" But
"at a really special price" offered by the good people at Mitsubishi, he finally
rewarded himself with "the biggest gift so far" and is set to va-va-vroom
into his showbiz career. "Turning
30 years old marks the beginning of (a man's) maturity
and I'll have to make my moves more carefully.
"Can't
afford to fall (into failure) anymore," he chuckled.
After
an unfortunate saga that discontinued his music contract, he hoped to launch his
second album soon and make his foray into the movie world as well. "Being
on the big screen is every actor's dream," he said with a tinge of regret, before
his minder broke the good news to him. "We've
actually received a script for you, but can't reveal too much now..."
Definitely
his third prized present, we say. Congratulations
and happy birthday, Chris! More
