Zoe
sounds off wedding bells

Zoe says laughingly, "Lingling and
Biren don't qualify…"as bridesmaids for her wedding that is. But
the 2 good friends will act as her consultants for her wedding on
September 22nd 2001.

Yes, it's official. Ah Jie Zoe is finally getting
married!
  "Finally,
ya? With that pilot right?" asked a fellow
Singaporean friend of mine who has been working overseas for the
past few years when I broke the news to him over ICQ.
Yes, Singapore's very own homegrown star who
grew up right before our very eyes is finally walking down the red
aisle with her pilot husband, Phillip Chionh after registering their
marriage in September 15, 1995.
When and what will the wedding be like?
"My wedding date has been set on September 22,"
says Zoe with a bright smile on her face. She is however unable
to disclose the location. "I would like to keep that secret for
now."
"I had wanted to do something different like
hold a beach party. I can wear T-shirt and jeans and everyone can
come in T-shirt and jeans. But then there are worries that the weather
might not be good and it would be such a bother to brief everyone
about what is going happen that day since we are doing something
different."
  "After
thinking it through long and hard, we decided to stick with the
traditions since the Teochew traditions are not very complicated,"
she smiles.
Following Teochew traditions, she will be married
out of the house before sunrise and following which, there will
be a church wedding (Hubby Phillip is a Catholic).
As for which church, "Hmm… I don't remember
which church it is but I did not get the church I wanted," she said.
"Will there be a wedding banquet?" asked a scribe.
"Nope, we will be having coffee in a coffeehouse. What are you talking
about? Of course there is a wedding banquet!" joked the jovial bride-to-be.
And since Phillip is a pilot with the Republic
of Singapore, will there be a march in complete with military guys
in uniforms? "Yes, we will try to arrange for that during the banquet
since not all people will be attending the church wedding."
Next came the question that everyone had been
waiting to broach. Who will be the bridesmaid and bridesgroom?
"They will mostly be artistes. Channel U artistes
included because
I want all my friends to be there."
Zoe is however unable to give us the list of
whos-who as she has not managed to confirm with her celebrity friends.
But she revealed the number in her wedding entourage.
"I will have 12 bridesmaids and 12 bridesgrooms.
They will certainly be faces you are familiar with. I have talked
with most of them and they are agreeable but because you people
are the first ones I announce my wedding date to, I have not been
able to check if their schedule is free on that day." But the ever-affable
star promises that she will send out the confirmed list by next
week.

Don't worry. Zoe has not forgotten you fans. While Phillip has requested
for the wedding to be a private affair, Zoe understands that many
fans want to share the joy of her wedding with her.
Thus, she will be working with MediaCorp to come up short video
snippets of her wedding to be shown on Channel 8.
