Forget Kym Ng. This is the face to watch out for in the coming months.

The name is Fiona Xie and unlike the ex-MediaCorp host who is already in her 30s, this pixie-faced newcomer just screams youth and vibrancy.

She is only 19, but her showbiz career already looks bright.

And she's not even a fulltime MediaCorp artiste yet. "I am keeping my options very open," she said. "I just want to concentrate on my project (My Genie) for now."

Filming for My Genie (debuts on Channel 8 at 9 pm) wraps up in June, but here's why we say Fiona's poised for bigger stuff.

Despite being a new face, she has already landed herself a movie deal on top of 2 television roles.

The Kym Ng lookalike will appear as Mark Lee's dream girl in Raintree Pictures' upcoming movie One Leg Kicking.

Come April 7, you will catch Fiona in My Genie, a lighthearted Mandarin sitcom about a young beautiful genie with Channel 8's latest dude Qi Yuwu.

Also in the cast are established MediaCorp actors San Yow and Huang Yiliang, the latter is making his first appearance on the goggle box after three years.

Fiona's first shot at fame came about in February, when she was asked to audition a role in English drama serial War Diary.

She landed the role as Robin Leong's younger sister who turns inward and depressed after experiencing the turbulent war.

Her genie role is the exact opposite, she said. Going just by the name 0385985, the genie is a naive and inquisitive girl who is clueless about the world.

"I think they (MediaCorp) gave me the role because they thought I looked that part, that I am young and vibrant. In real life though, I am beyond my years. I am not as chirpy and vibrant," the petite Fiona told TODAY.

What is the ex-model like then?

"I am someone who thinks a lot. I can be very different at different times, which is why I enjoy acting. It allows me to explore the different sides to my personality."

She was hesitant to accept the role initially, she added. "I think it helped that my Mandarin isn't strong. It adds character to the role, like I really don't know anything about the world. So, there are times when I really appear clueless. It's quite funny."

So, if a genie appears in front of her and grants her a wish, what would it be?

Fiona thought hard and long. "Oh dear. This is a tough call. I think for now, my wish would be to have a holiday. This is the first time I am working. I am feeling so stressed," she said.
