Au-ch! Sharon locks lips with Mark Lee

February 28, 2001

What's more, the mouth-to-mouth action lasts at least 5 seconds. Watch out for it in the movie, One Leg Kicking.

It's her first screen kiss, but of all the people to pucker up to, poor Sharon Au had to get Mr Rubber Lips himself, Mark Lee.

Not only that, it'll be blown up a thousand times on the big screen because the infamous kiss is for upcoming local English movie One Leg Kicking, which also stars funnyman Gurmit Singh.

Sharon and Gurmit play wacky plumbers in the Raintree Pictures production, but her biggest challenge must surely have been trying not to laugh at Mark's face.

Sharon Kisses Mark

Reveals the 25-year-old as a matter-of-factly, "Basically, I've known and acted with Mark for some time, so we're quite close. This is my first on-screen kiss, so I was naturally very nervous. I was very scared on the first take, but it got better.

"We shot the romantic kissing scene at the Kent Ridge Park in the day. We had 4 takes in all. Each kiss lasted for at least 5 seconds. I did not really have any (mental) preparations prior to shooting the scene. Neither did I have any 'resistance' towards Mark whatsoever."

A true professional, we say. What went through her mind as she smooched him?

"I just imagined that it was my character in the show kissing him. In fact, we were more concerned about the technicalities of the shoot and concentrating hard to 'kiss correctly'.

"It was WORK - so I didn't think too much about it. It definitely differs from the way I would kiss my boyfriend in real life - that would entail more passion.

Then, the ex-Hwa Chong Junior College student adds with a mischievous glint, "I purposely put on a redder shade of lipstick and applied more of it so that I could sabotage Mark by leaving a mark on his lips."

Sharon's Singing

Kisses aside, Sharon will also be singing the theme song, You're My Only One, for the movie soundtrack. How does she rate her vocals?

She says, "I'd give myself 7/10. The song is produced with my vocal capabilities and range in mind, so there was little pressure singing it. It's a sweet and sentimental tune that describes my love for Mark."

Sharon - The Plumber from Malaysia?

We've seen her taking on hilarious and adorable roles (like the impressionable Japanese girl, the naggy aunt and the cute housemaid) in City Beat.

But we've yet to see Sharon act as a plumber before. How does she play her character?

"I've absolutely no experience in plumbing before. So, I actually called the plumber to fix my spoilt pipes at home. Of course, I did not call him in on purpose. I have been putting off some repair jobs of late.

"So I thought this is a good opportunity for me to engage a plumber and observe him while he worked."

One Leg Kicking will be released later this year.
