Sing 'live'? Fann proves it's No Problem. Plus win posters!

At an autograph session held yesterday at Cathay Cineleisure (Orchard), Fann Wong proved her singing mettle with a new song from her latest "still-in-the-works" album titled, No Problems (Mei Wen Ti). Plus! Join our contest and win posters of Fann Wong!

[Eastciti.com, September 18] Despite what critics say, Fann Wong, it seems, has no problems with belting out a decent tune 'live'. Yesterday's autograph session held at Cathay Cineleisure was proof of that.

Looking slim and chirpy in a pair of green leather pants and a figure-hugging top, the star's arrival sent the crowd into a cheering frenzy. There to officially launch her pictorial book, In The Mood, and to present a cheque well-worth $15,000 to the Association of Handicap Welfare, the star teased and pleased fans with her saccharine-sweet smiles, warm waves and friendly hellos.

After warming the audience up with some games and the cheque presentation ceremony, a happy-looking Fann was then asked to perform a song for the enthusiastic crowd.

Fann Says No Problem!
"Can you sing a song for us?" asked y.e.s. 93.3FM DJ Danny Yeo, who was the host of the event. "Mei Wen Ti (No Problem)," replied Fann. "No problems?" asked Danny again. "No problems," agreed the gung-ho Fann. Acting as if he was not too sure of her abilities, he teased her once again, "Should you be saying no problems?"

Fann laughed and explained, "Oh, that's the name of my new song."

What happened next was both terribly funny and yet an insightful glimpse into the artiste's professionalism. As strains of the introduction started, there was a splutter and the tape died. In a ironical turn of events, one realised that the sweet lass who claimed that she had "No problems" now had 2 problems.

One: Due to the technical faults, it was pretty clear to everyone present that 'no-problem' Fann was intending to lip synch (Whatever happened to all that stamina she built up for the concert?).

Two: She was NOT going to get to sing that song for her eager fans. What a pity. But without missing a beat, the veteran model-turned-singer actually turned the tables around by making a joke out of the whole thing. "Oh dear, No Problems has got problems now. It's OK, let me sing it for you anyway but I will only sing one stanza because there is no music." And with that, Fann sang 'live' and proved this critic wrong. She has improved and she can indeed sing.
