Danny Yeo and Pan Lingling hit it off in Entertainment Beat.

Entertainment Beat lost anchor host Guo Liang but found Singapore's Most Creative Chinese Radio DJ Danny Yeo to fill his place. Will the show lose its shine or shimmer even more? Will he be well-received by the crew members and host, Pan Lingling? Eastciti went behind the scenes of the recording of his first appearance, which aired last Friday (September 8).

Pacing up and down the pavement, Danny appears apprehensive. Oh boy…not even the picturesque peak view on Alkaff Mansion (the filming location) can pacify him.

Brows knitted, he familiarises himself with his lines before his maiden shooting as the host of Entertainment Beat - a Mandarin variety show centring around showbiz news and gossip, a la Showbuzz. "I'm not very good at remembering lines. I'm more used to being impromptu…" the radio DJ admits bashfully.

Standing few inches away is his co-host, Pan Lingling, who is overheard telling the 6-man crew gleefully, "Eh…I'm so happy. Now I don't feel lonely when I'm reading the scripts (at the eleventh hour). Got someone to keep me company!"

She speaks in rapid-fire Mandarin as she recounts the days when her ex-partner, Guo Liang, was perpetually so calm and confident. "I can't help but feel the pressure in the past when I was hosting next to such a professional…"

9.30 am
Okay. Scripts aside and shooting to commence, commands the producer. Every precious minute has to be spent wisely as the duo (and the crew) have a back-to-back schedule that morning. A total of 4 parts have to be recorded before 11 am. Following that, Danny has to sprint back to Caldecott Hill to host his regular lunchtime programme on y.e.s 93.3FM.

10.45 am

Phew. Filming is completed 15 minutes ahead of schedule. With signs of relief and jubilation written all over their faces, the twosome exchange winning handshakes excitedly and chant, "He Zuo Yu Kuai (loosely translated as happy working together)!"

The crew cheers and confers commendations like "They make a great pair" and "Saw the sizzle between the two already".

Lingling says of the new partnership, "I feel very comfortable. Less tense, too…May be because there's no pressure on me now." Yeah, one performs better when he/she's more relaxed, echoes a crew member.

How does Danny, the new host, feel? Wiping the sweat off his (smiling) face, he says, "I'm so relieve it's over! Pretty glad with the turnout and I look forward to the next recording."
