Tulips, Anyone? Celebs sell flowers for a good cause.

If Jeff Wong, Robin Leong, Vivian Lai, Priscelia Chan, Desmond Koh, Bukoh Mary and Dennis Chew (Chong Qing) were to sell you multi-coloured silk cocoon tulips on the street, would you buy from them? Most people would, of course, considering that the DJs from y.e.s. 93.3FM would single them out to the whole of Orchard Road if they did not. But seriously, most passers-by could not bear to reject our big-hearted artistes who went all out to fulfil the Children's Cancer Foundation's (CCF) target to create a "Tulip Heart" structure of Generosity, Love and Hope.

<Eastciti.com, September 4>
September 3 was Tulip Hearts Day, a day when CCF aimed to raise the level of awareness of childhood cancer in Singapore and highlight the range of support services that the Foundation offers to cancer-stricken children and their families. There were volunteers islandwide selling pretty multi-coloured silk cocoon tulips but the main activity point was at Wheelock Place, where the artistes of MediaCorp came down on their own free will to contribute their time for a good cause. As usual, the sun was scorching hot at noon. However, for the sake of charity, the artistes worked the streets without a word of complaint, some like Florence Tan and Priscelia Chan even worked beyond their shifts and were very assertive in selling the tulips.

What The Artistes Say

Vivian Lai
"This is my first time selling things on the streets, in the past, I had only seen other people do it. Now that I had tried it myself, I had a taste of how it felt. Some people just walk away without buying, I think we need more compassion."

Yang Yue
"This is the first time veteran artistes are involved in outdoor charity events. It is a good thing for it shortens the distance between artistes and viewers. Artistes can also gain more exposure while doing charity. We should do whatever we can to help the less fortunate."

Florence Tan
"It is a meaningful event. We should try to contribute to society, too. I hope we can raise as much funds as possible. So far, sales are quite OK. Many people just donate their money without taking the tulips. If I have the time, I will engage in more of such activities."

Koh Chieng Mun
"I am just doing my bit for charity. I had been to Club Rainbow's film premier. The children are very brave. This is for a good cause."

Hu Shida
"We are all very fortunate. I am just making a contribution to society by doing this for the cancer-stricken children. Some people may feel that there are too many charitable organisations around, but when it comes to money for charity, it will be the more the better."

Zhou Quan Xi
"This is the 1st time I am participating in such a charity event. I am glad to be a part of it, but sad at the same time for the poor children. I believe we should all do what we can."

Liang Tian
"It is meaningful to help others, all the more, if you do it yourself."

Priscelia Chan
"I never did Flag Day before in my school days, I was rather quiet then. So, I am happy to do my part now."

Fang Hui
"It is worthwhile to spend my time here because I am making a contribution."
