Before the concert

Fann's smitten fans came in full force, all decked-out to give their favourite star their support. Bouquets, banners, gifts, cheers, whistles and even specially-bought outfits for the concert - no effort was spared by in making their presence felt. Eastciti caught hold of some of them before the concert and got them to tell their side of the story.

<Eastciti.com, June 26>Belinda, 19, founded of Fanatic Fann Club when she was 14. Her group has grown from 5 to 200 members.

"We have been here since 6 pm (concert starts at 8 pm) At this concert, we want to have our presence felt. To do that, about 140 of our members bought the $100 seat tickets and we will be sitting together to cheer and give Fann our greatest support in spirit. You will get to see a sea of fans in yellow T-shirts."

Gigantic bouquet
"We bought this bouquet for $100…(cost revealed after much probing) If other fans want to buy other gifts for Fann, they are welcome to do so and the organisers will arrange for a specific time for us to present the gifts to her. As for other gifts, our presence and support is the greatest gift!"

Practising their cheers
"We haven't trained for very long. About 1-2 hours! (laughs) At the last Fann's promotion at Eastpoint, we had a very short members gathering and we practised a bit. As for today, there were some new additions and changes to the cheers and so we came here at 6 pm to practise."

After the concert
"If members want to chase Fann, we won't object. But we won't be organsing any plans to chase her. We want others to see us as a mature fan club because we feel that a fan club is not a crazed organisation that goes around chasing stars blindly. To us, our fan club is just another interest group with members having the same hobbies and become friends. We share the same admiration for Fann."

Who is the greatest fan here?
"All of us are. She's our niece." said Mr Fann who was there with sister Madam Fann.

Why do you like Fann?
"She's very sweet, very nice and very friendly. I just joined the fan club but I actually started admiring her for very long time…since 1995 when she won the award."

Favourite Fann song?
"Shopping."

"My tickets are from the Pokka drink contest. But I bought one pair of tickets each worth $35 and gave them to my friends as my way of supporting her."

Why do you like Fann?
"We think she's very special because she's not from Star Search and yet she can be so successful, becoming the first local artiste to have a concert in Singapore. She's very beautiful and talented. She's got good figure!"
