About
Christian:
While you may find Christian familiar, you may not be able
to put a finger on who he is. Well, for your information,
this 27-year old Ix Shen look alike (who is also a personal
friend of Ix) is actually a model. One of the leading models
who took part in the Asean Designer Fashion show, this poster
boy has so far played some roles in Chinese stage dramas and
TCS serials. Prior to that, he was helping his family's vitamin
and healthcare distribution business.
Bet
you didn't know:
Christian
is best remembered for the "There Goes
My Baby" citibank commercial. And that was when he got
to know Jamie. "If you looked closely at the picture
which I tore apart in the commercial, that was Jamie's picture.(laughs)"
Why
he auditioned for the play:
"Well, I was told that Steven was in this play and they
wanted me to go for an audition and I thought to myself, why
not?"
On
his role in The Swimming Instructor:
"I was full of excitement when I heard that I had won
the role of Guan because I have never done English plays before.
I feel I could empathize with him right away especially his
tendency to be alone in a crowd and his rather reserved nature."
On
how the character, Guan is similar to him:
"I'm a loner and I am still searching for my direction
in life! I am thinking of what to do for my life permantly."
divulged Christian who is currently taking care of a studio
for his friend.
On
researching for the role of Guan, The Swimming Instructor:
"I did alot of research. I went to alot of swimming pools
and talked to the swimming instructors there," said the
friendly and animated Christian. Suddenly whispering as if
letting me on a secret, "But the thing is that the thing
which I found out is that the swimming instructors that we
see around are very seldom very mascular and good looking
like Ix Shen's portrayal. (laughs)"
On
training for the role:
Even though he is a model, Christian claims that he has not
worked out for some time and has gotten a little flabby over
the months. But as soon as he knew that he got the role, "I
started to train intensively so that I would not look too
bad."
On
floating:
"Floating is easy because you do not have to exert yourself.
I am a floater in life and I hope to dive into a new career
in acting."
On
travelling:
"I like to meditate and take off to unfamiliar places."
And to satisfy his wanderlust, this bachelor travels all over
the world when he is not working. And his favourite places
of travel? "London and Thailand."
On
being Christian Koh:
When I asked Christian to use
three words to describe himself, he was in dilemma."There
are so many sides to me. Three words are not enough,"
he protested. After thinking long and hard, he let out a grin
and informed me that he is, "Frank, responsible and quick
tempered." So wouldn't being quick tempered be a hindrance
when it comes to rehearsing for a play where everyone is stressed
up? "Everyone has to do what is right," was Christian's
philosophy.
On
his previous acting experiences:
"I acted in this Chinese play called Wu Er about a group
of earless inhabitants on a remote island." ("Oh
I watched the show," I informed him and the excited Christian
went on to insist "You did not!" "Yes I did!"
the equally stubborn reporter (me) replied. "Let me test
you. Tell me about the storyline." And having passed
the test, Christian gamely exclaimed, "All right, you
are the girl man!") Anyway, in the play, Christian plays
the lead role of Dr Ke Lun who regrets bringing these tribal
people back to the labs for research.
 On
basking in the limelight of fame:
"Would you join Star Search or would you join TCS?"
I asked him and "No, " was Christian's firm reply.
" I do not long to be famous and do not really like basking
in the limelight of fame."
Christian's favourite swimwear:
"My black Speedo."
On
swimming in the pool:
"I would suntan
myself there. If it is hot, I apply my lotion and if it is
crowded, I go home."
