Jamie Yeo

About Jamie Yeo:
Most of you would find Jamie a familiar face on TV. Better known as Tammy, the baby of the Tay family in the English drama series, Growing Up, Jamie has got a host of other interesting experiences such as hosting Premiere 12's teen magazine programme, Can and filling in as a DJ on Perfect 10. Jamie already started performing in her teens and her debut was SRT's play, The Singapore Carol. In 1998, whe went on to win the coveted role of Lorraine in Action Theatre's musical drama, Ka-Ra-you-OK?

Bet you didn't know:
This mass comm graduate loves acting, reading, foot reflexology, food and having meaningful conversations at quaint cafes and going to spas.

Why she auditioned for the play:
"Well, it was like I had nothing to do because I was going to be free soon (Growing Up ended ) and it was also because Steven was going to be in it. It just seemed like a fun thing to do and I thought that after 2 years of audiences seeing me as a goody goody girl next door kind of girl, I thought it would be a challenge to do something different from my character."

On her role in The Swimming Instructor:
"I was apprehensive and excited when I was offered the part of Jan. She's an interesting complex character who's jaded about life and sexually aggressive-very different from Tammy! This role gives me a chance to really stretch what I've learnt as an actress and show whart I can do. I liked the play when I caught it at last year's Festival and it'll be interesting to reinterpret role this time with a fresh twist."

On how the character, Jan is similar to her:
"If I like a guy, I'll make sure he knows it! But I am not as sexually aggressive as Jan!"

On what additional element she would add in to her version of Jan:
"This time round, they are actually doing more to the characters like they are layering the characters and give them more quirks and more reasons to be the way they are. I feel that if there is no layering, my character becomes just really slutty. So with layering comes the fact that people would identify with her and see why she is like that and understand you see. The most important thing is that the characters are deeper this time."

On why the three of them (Steven, Jamie and Christian) are such good pals:
"Well, you know, when you bare yourself to someone in some bikini, I think you just naturally become buddies. It is like after you have actually done the photoshoot..you know, it took us 6 hours to do the photo shoot and it was like 3 am in the night. Christian and I, we knew each other five years ago and now we are doing this thing together. What is more, Steven knew Christian also. They like to bully me."

On being embarrassed about strutting around in a bikini on stage:
"Well, have never worn a bikini prior to this. The only time I wore it was for the Vshop ad but I had a sweater over it you see, so that is not counted as I am only like using it as an underwear. But this time it is like I just felt that it would be a test of my professionalism. I wanted to see if I could do something which I am not used to and still be able to get into character. And I thought that it would be fun and it would be a time to open myself and be open about things and to learn how to detach myself away from the character."

On people who may be there just to oogle at her figure:
"If they do, it is ok because they would buy the tickets. But I guess there are many reasons why people come. Some of them may be here to see Christian and Steven. Some guys and girls, you know. But if they do they do, what can I say? It is like I went to watch The Beach because of Leonardo DiCaprio."

On what Robin says about this swimsuit thing:
"Nothing. I mean what can he say? He is not my husband."

On whether Robin is supportive of her daring move:
"I don't know, as I said, I don't need him to be supportive or not but I guess he has to be supportive. He did The Blue Room for goodness sake… (giggles)"

On whether she prefers swimming to floating or diving:
"Floating is effortless because you feel so light. But in life, I'm a swimmer. If I set a goal, I would work hard to achieve it."

Jamie's favourite swimwear:
"Solid colour one-piece swimsuit. I have never worn a bikini until now."

On an unforgettable pool experience:
"A beautiful summer in Ohio when I had a teenage crush on this boy-next-door. We went swimming alot, played volleyball and watched TV."
